ASTA Survey Data
A variety of industry forces are driving the need for a change to the economics of travel distribution. Travel agencies, already hit by the elimination of commissions, need access to all fares to remain competitive – and to provide the service their customers expect.
A recent survey conducted by the ASTA Research Department on behalf of Sabre confirmed that:
- 84% of agents are “very concerned” about the introduction of service fees by airlines
- 83% are “very concerned” about airlines withholding content
- 69% noted that their customers are best served with full content through a single source
To address these concerns, Sabre Travel Network has launched the Efficient Access Solution – a holistic approach designed to meet the needs of all industry players while preserving and enhancing the Efficient Marketplace. The Efficient Access Solution is the foundation that ensures full content and protection from service fees from program carriers, and sets the stage for new end-to-end portfolios to help agencies focused on the corporate and leisure segments better compete in a dynamic travel marketplace.
NOTE: The results of this survey include answers from all respondents who took the survey in the 37 day period from Tuesday, April 18, 2006 to Wednesday, May 24, 2006. 239 completed responses were received to the survey during this time.
